My review:-
I've heard that Sabrina is particularly proud of this film. After seeing it I can say that she is right to be. Her performance as Heidi Leiter is flawless and totally believable Heidi swings alternately from joy, in the company of girlfriend Missy, to despair at the prejudice of classmates and, initially, her mother (she's even taken to a psychiatrist to be "cured"!). Sabrina manages to convey these mixed emotions perfectly.

In most of Sabrina's roles she has played one of a number of main characters. Here she is very much the lead - I can't recall a scene that she isn't in - and she handles being centre stage with ease. And because she is the central character she gets lots of close ups. What a wonderful face that girl has!

Sabrina receives able support from the rest of the cast. It was particularly interesting to see an early appearance from my second favourite actress, Claire Danes (whatever happened to her?). And I warmed to WT Martin's Bob Leiter when he confounded my expectations by supporting Heidi from the start.

If I have a criticism it is that, at just 30 minutes, the film is way too short. There would have been enough material for a full 90 minutes. As it is, bits of the story appear rushed - particularly the final prom scene. And I would have liked to have seen more of the reaction from Heidi's classmates.

But all in all, a very touching little film - and one of Sabrina's finest performances.
