Synopsis:-
A spoof documentary about the world of ice-skating, On Edge follows the trials and tribulations of three young female figure skaters as they fight their way toward a spot on the U.S. Olympic team. Unearthing the less than elegant side of women's figure skating along the way. Wendy, Veda, and J.C. are fighting their way to Olympic glory. But first they have to win the regional competition ……and there can only be ONE winner. A spoof documentary about the world of ice-skating.

My review:-
As a "mockumentary", I felt "On Edge" failed to find the right balance. Not funny enough to be a spoof, not realistic enough to be a documentary. The basic premise is sound enough but the stories lack that edge of believability that makes for an effective spoof. Perhaps the humour strikes home to those familiar with the ice-skating scene, but it didn't for me.

The funniest lines came from, predictably enough, Sabrina. Her role as an accident prone ice-skater (she had to learn to skate for the part) had some nice comic moments but it was very much a peripheral role and she is present for only a few minutes of the movie.
|
The rest of the story did not engage me. I didn't much care who won the competition. The performances were no more than adequate at best with the notable exception of AJ Langer as the feisty J.C Cain. She managed to give her character an aura of believability and made her someone I could care about.
