"HOW SABRINA SLID INTO BRISBANE"

by Shane Sutton
Does this face look familiar?  If so, there`s a chance you`re either a fan of Network Ten`s Sliders or that a more Eighties-looking Sabrina Lloyd may have lived with you in Brisbane.

“I remember getting on the plane, thinking, 'I`m going to go to sleep and when I wake up I`ll be in Australia`,” she says. “But when I woke up I still had 12 hours to go. I couldn`t believe it.”

Sabrina, who plays feisty dimension traveller Wade Wells in the sci-fi series, spend a year in Australia on a student exchange program nearly a decade ago, having “The best time”.

“It was so beautiful,” she says. “I felt like I became a woman in Australia. I went there this naïve little girl from a very small town in America and I was alone in Brisbane, going out to nightclubs. It sort of opened my eyes to the world.”

But Sabrina - who recently became engaged to a crew member on the show - has now lost contact with her Australian host family and has no idea if they know that the starry-eyed 15-year-old who studied at the Brisbane Royal theatre Company has found acting success around the world.

“I lost contact,” she says. “I kept it for the first few years, but after that they moved and I moved on,” she says. “I was already into acting when I was there, so I did some plays and a workshop. But I didn`t get to travel, unfortunately. It just means I`ll have to take another trip there.”
